Coming into the Richmond race 17th in the points standings, Casey is hoping to improve. He already has 4 top 10 finishes this season. Casey is a mild mannered California native and he spent some time prior to the race talking with me about his exciting racing career so far.
I asked Casey if he had a nickname and he said for a long time, he thought initials were cool, recalling A.J. Foyt from his Indy Car days. So, he was called C.J., since his middle name is James. But, when he was 15, he went back to just being called Casey.
Because I am a Senior in High School, I decided to ask Casey to share some of his favorite high school memories, he laughed and said that some of the best times he had in high school were when he was playing football. He had a lot of fun with the team. Some of Casey's hobbies included wakeboarding and snow boarding. He did a little roller blading as well.
Casey likes all kinds of music, but he listens to Rock & Roll and Alternative the most. His favorite groups are Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Casey was surprised when I asked him what song he felt best described his life. Casey said it had to be something wild and crazy. He said he never thought he would be driving in the Cup Series. So, his life had been pretty wild and crazy, so far.
As I am aspiring to be a roller coaster and amusement park designer, I asked Casey what rides he liked best. He said that because he grew up in California, he often went to Six Flags Magic Mountain. His favorite ride was the Viper, which is a pretty wild roller coaster ride. He definitely likes roller coasters the most.
I appreciate the time Casey spent talking with me. I'll look forward to watching him win races and move ahead the rest of the season.
