Once Again DEI Rules

Daytona Beach, FL - An extremely happy Michael Waltrip drives to
victory under caution
at the Pepsi 400.
DEI has apparently found the key to restrictor plate racing as the #15 NAPA Chevrolet of Michael Waltrip and the #8 Budweiser Chevrolet of Dale Earnhart, Jr led much of the race under the lights at Daytona International Speedway. Although, Junior made an attempt to pass Michael for the lead, he got no help, lost the draft and slipped back to finish 6th.
A wild and unruly start to the race extended the Daytona woes for Tony Stewart, dropping him to 7th in the Winston Cup standings. Rusty Wallace advanced to 4th in points after coming in 2nd, his best Daytona finish ever.
Johnny Benson exited the race early when he was bumped by Michael Waltrip sending the #10 Valvoline Pontiac into the wall. Johnny suffered 3 broken ribs and was transported to the hospital.
We held our breath when “The Big One” came on lap 135. Dale Jarrett moved his #88 UPS Ford down to block the #99 Citgo Ford of Jeff Burton. A total of 14 cars were involved. An angry Dale Jarrett emerged from his car and after waiting several minutes for an ambulance, walked back to pit road.
Joe Nemechek flew into the wall taking what appeared to be a disasterous hit. We were relieved when he later credited the Hans Device for preventing him from sustaining any major injuries.
