ROOKIE WINS
IN JUST HIS 2ND
WINSTON CUP RACE!

Jamie McMurray Car

Concord, NC - Jamie McMurray, age 26, wins the UAW/GM 500 in the #40 Coors Light Dodge! He was nervous starting the race and he was nervous when he finished, but the young driver taking over for the injured Sterling Marlin, kept his cool as he staved off a charging Bobby LaBonte to take his first ever Winston Cup win.

Bobby LaBonte had a great day in the #18 Interstate Batteries Pontiac. Even though he had a tire go down late in the race, he was able to keep up with the young McMurray for the 2nd place finish.

Tony Stewart remains the leader in the Winston Cup point standings as he finished the rain-delayed race in 3rd place. He started the #20 Home Depot Pontiac on the pole and proceeded to lead for 16 laps. But, his car was tight for most of the day and he fought to keep his top five position.

Except for Mark Martin, the remainder of the Championship contenders finished in the top 10, therefore, there was no change in the point standings. However, there was a fantastic finish for one other driver. Dave Blaney had started the race in the 23rd position. He was able to avoid the wreck on lap 231 and made a valiant effort to finish the race in the 10th position.

How did you like the race? Do you think the smaller fuel cells made any difference? Send us an email and we'll post your perspective of the race.
