FORD TAKES PRECEDENCE
AT THE ROCK

Rockingham, NC: On a sunny but windy day at the track, Dale Jarrett slips past Kurt Busch to win his 31st Winston Cup race.

Ford was the dominant manufacturer today as 6 of the top 10 finishers were driving that make. Dodge had 2 of the top 10 with Pontiac and Chevrolet each having only 1.

Dave Blaney started on the pole and he had an impressive day in the #77 Jasper Motorsports Ford as he finished 10th. Rusty Wallace led most of the first half of the race, but as the track conditions changed, the #2 Miller Lite Dodge went away from him. Rusty finished 6th.

When Kurt Busch took over the lead on lap 220, it appeared that the #97 Rubbermaid Ford would be headed to Victory Lane. But with just 5 laps to go, DJ slipped past Kurt in the #88 UPS Ford and snatched the win.

Dale Earnhardt Jr had a particularly terrible day starting with a flat tire and including a variety of spins and taps with other vehicles. Although DEI may dominate the restrictor plate races, its back to the drawing board as the entire team finished badly.

Next week the TracksideGirls are off to Las Vegas. It's a great town to spend some time and go see a race. There are lots of activities for fans and lots of attractions. However, a word of caution for parents. Las Vegas has added some attractions for children, but keep in mind, no one under the age of 21 is allowed on the casino floors. If you bring your children, be prepared to keep them entertained yourself.

Also, don't be fooled by the fact that Las Vegas is in the desert. It gets cold there at this time of year. We have been to far too many races where children, as well as adults, are unprepared for the frigid temperatures. Our advise is layers. You can always take off coats, sweatshirts and sweatpants as the day gets warmer. But if you come to the track dressed in shorts, you and your children will not be happy.

Another good thing about Las Vegas is the great buffets. These usually have an abundance of food at a reasonable price. Check out the buffets at Excalibur, MGM and for seafood lovers, the Flamingo. Be sure to take some time to visit the Paris resort. The ambience of the "sidewalk cafe" is charming and the service is superb.

If you're looking for a thrill, take a trip to the top of the Stratosphere and ride "The Big Shot". It's a catapult ride you will never forget. The roller coaster at New York, New York is another exciting thrill ride.

One of our favorite events at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the free air show given on Friday during qualifying. The stunts are courtesy of Nellis AFB and they are breathtaking!

If the weather cooperates, this will be a week of fun and excitement. Maybe, we'll see you there!
