Ryan's Two Tire Two-Step Wins in Texas

Ft. Worth, TX: When Ryan Newman took over the lead from Jeff Gordon, he didn't know his final pit strategy would take him to victory. The decision to take just two tires kept the #12 Alltel Dodge out front and hard driving propelled Ryan to the Winner's Circle at the Samsung/RadioShack 500.

When a caution came out in the middle of green flag pit stops on lap 226, only 9 cars were left on the lead lap and Ryan Newman took the lead. Although another quick caution allowed many of the lapped cars to get back onto the lead lap, no one was able to catch Ryan.

Then, after the last pit stop with 51 laps remaining, Dale Earnhardt Jr, who had taken 4 tires, muscled his way past Ryan. But Ryan was not to be denied and with Jeff Gordon closing in, he lunged past Jr to take the lead once more.

The battle for 2nd place between Jeff Gordon in the #24 DuPont Chevrolet and Dale Earnhardt Jr in the #8 Budweiser Chevrolet provided a bit of excitement. On the last lap of the race, Jr was able to make the final push and shoved past Jeff.

Jerry Nadeau had an impressive day in the #01 U.S. Army Pontiac. He came in 4th. Points leader Matt Kenseth did lead the race in the #17 DeWalt Ford, but finished in 6th. He was able to retain the lead in Championship Points.
