BUSCH BOOED
AT BRISTOL BASH

Bristol, TN: Kurt Busch was booed at driver introductions and again in the winners circle as he sweeps both Bristol races in 2003. After the feud with Jimmy Spencer escalated to retaliation and the suspension of “Mr. Excitement”, Kurt came to the Sharpie 500 as the poor underprivileged boy being picked on by the big bad bully. In a pre-race interview, he made a vain effort to justify his deliberate attempt to strike Jimmy Spencer’s tire in the Michigan race as a lack of respect for that driver. Just when was it that Kurt Busch earned the respect of other Winston Cup drivers?

The race on Saturday night was filled with cautions to which Kurt contributed on more than one occasion. His major infraction came when he pushed Sterling Marlin out of his way. Now as most of us know, the typical “bump and run” is as much a part of short track racing as short tempers. But drivers are aware that to bump the left rear fender of the car ahead as you enter a corner will cause that car to spin, possibly striking the wall, and causing havoc for the cars behind. Yet this is exactly the type of hit, Kurt put on Sterling. The #40 Coors Light Dodge was forced out of the race.

Then, to make matters worse, in the winner’s circle Kurt made a dastardly ploy to sway Dale Earnhardt, Sr fans his way by using a quote from the former “Intimidator”. Unfortunately for Kurt Busch, Dale Earnhardt, Sr had earned the respect of his fellow drivers. Something, at this point, Kurt may never earn
