FENCED IN AT POCONO RACEWAY
Long Pond, PA - After having been to several tracks over the past few years, I was faced with a track policy I had never encountered before.
My first experience at Pocono Raceway began last Saturday when we arrived at the track. I was impressed with the efficiency of the parking lot attendants. They controlled traffic and kept it moving at a steady pace.
As had become a regular routine at every venue, our crew set out to visit the souvenir trailers to observe fans and drivers who occasionally come out to sign autographs. As we approached a fenced in area where the trailers were parked, we were stopped by members of the "Special Event" staff. They asked to see our tickets. There was an ARCA race that was just beginning. We told them we weren't going to the race, just to the souvenir trailers. Although they were very polite, they said we couldn't enter the fenced in area without a ticket.
How absurd! Why would we buy a ticket to a race we had no intention of seeing just so we could wander through the souvenir area. We told them we had tickets for the Winston Cup race the next day. Unfortunately, these were no good for Saturday.
The staff was very sympathetic, however, they couldn't change the track policy. They were under the impression that this was the same policy at all tracks. We told them we had never encountered this policy at any of the tracks we had ever been to. Let us know if you have ever run into this same type of situation.
