REJUVENATED RUSTY
REMINECES WITH FANS

Rusty Wallace

Dover, DE: The Official Nascar Members Club (ONMC) held a Question & Answer Session with Rusty Wallace after he finished 7th driving the #64 Miller Dodge in the Busch Series race at Dover International Speedway.

The ONMC, which was launched in February of this year, was established as a way to connect NASCAR with its loyal fans. Membership offers exclusive privileges, benefits and rewards that include VIP events such as Question & Answer sessions with drivers. The Club promise is to get Members closer to drivers, teams, tracks and other NASCAR partners.

Dover International Speedway provided the setting for this special event. Because of their cooperation, the fans were able to meet Rusty up close and personal. The experience was exceptional, as this event was limited to a small number of Members.

Ty Norris was emcee for the Question & Answer Session. He was formerly the executive vice president of Dale Earnhardt Inc. and helped to propel that business into one of NASCAR's premier organizations. Norris most recently was vice president of special projects for Speedway Motorsports. He was asked by NASCAR to assist with the development of the ONMC.

Prior to Rusty's appearance, Ty explained how the ONMC was working with NASCAR to provide additional rewards for Members. Plans are being explored for a National Convention in Charlotte, NC to coincide with the NASCAR All Star race. For more information about the ONMC go to NASCAR.com and click on Members Club.

Suddenly, without fanfare, Rusty enters. Always a great ambassador between NASCAR and its fans, Rusty does not shy away from these intimate settings. He is extremely enthusiastic about the ONMC and what it offers. Ty received a ton of questions from the assembled group and begins to fire away at Rusty.

Rusty is naturally excited about being in the Chase. He was asked if he liked the old point system or the new one. His response was that he liked the new system now that he was in the Chase. His team has put a lot of effort into seeing that Rusty has the best chance of winning the Championship in his final season.

Fans that have backed Rusty during his career are optimistic, and like Rusty, feel he has an excellent opportunity to bring home the Championship trophy. But, they are also upset at the prospect of losing their favorite driver. When asked who they should root for after he retires, Rusty said he wanted his fans to cheer for his son, Steven. Rusty will be devoting most of his time to his Busch team next year. Steven will be driving in at least 12 of those races.

Rusty said he would be getting into the cars to set them up for Steven and give him the best possibility for succeeding. He feels he will need to give Steven this extra edge to put him at the same level of competition that other young drivers have entering the Busch Series. He is very confident about Steven's prospects and hopes many fans will come to the Busch races and support him.

Much to the disappointment of the fans, Rusty went on to reiterate that his final Nextel Cup race will be at Homestead in November. He has no plans to get into a car after that.

One of the most endearing responses Rusty gave was when he was asked what were the two most memorable moments of his career. Of course, the highlight was winning the Championship in 1989. He gave us a quick synopsis of that momentous occasion. However, as he recalled the final race he ran with his friend, Dale Earnhardt Sr, he nearly brought a tear to everyone's eye.

In closing, Rusty thanked the fans for becoming a part of the OMNC and that he was looking forward to participating in future events.
